All about us…

If we had to choose a sentence to sum up Jérôme DUMENY’s journey, it would be “Music has always been part of my life”. Jérôme picked the guitar at 8, “probably influenced by my father, who was constantly listening to Georges Brassens”, he remembers. Growing up listening to French and international pop acts on the radio, he developed a taste for french texts and storytellers, as well as for 70s & 80s Pop sounds. Tired of classical guitar, he gets interested in Toto’s american sound and has a revelation after discovering Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler. He soon buys an electric guitar but “never practiced any Knopfler’s song, too intimidating at the time”, even if the sound and the passion of this guitar hero left an indelible mark on Jérôme’s mind. During his college years, he got interested in metal music in general. “I learned the blues by playing along Iron Maiden’s music. At some point, I was able to play their whole catalogue!”. In the 90’s, he listens to Vai, Satriani, Slash, Bettencourt, discovers jazz music, and Zappa’s work. A student of Mimi Lorenzini, he rediscovers the meaning of the word Music : “He was an extraordinary musician and a fabulous human being. I miss him…”

In the early 2000s, Jérôme became particularly interested in Trent Reznor and Steven Wilson, who will become models for him. Collaborating with many artists from the local scene, he sharpens his composing, singing and playing skills, and develops his home studio. He meets Alexis Sereduik, Hostel of Ghost’s other half, when collaborating with local artist Esta Webster. Since then, he works on several projects and has never been so hardworking, “just like my favorite guitar hero, Steve Lukather, who never ceased to evolve”. Hostel of Ghosts’ first album is the cornerstone of an ambitious project that will grow bigger over the years.

Alexis SEREDUIK grew up listening to 70’s prog and picks the drums at the age of 9,determined to become a professional drummer. Few years later, only 12 years old, he plays a song on stage with his favorite french prog band, Ange. This life-changing experience only reinforces his will to make it in the music industry.
When studying in different conservatories in France, he’s also studying with Thierry Collin (The Soulblade Orchestra), who helps him nurture his curiosity, open-mindedness and artistic integrity.
After many years playing shows and teaching in France, Alexis decides to move to New-York for a few months, so he can witness the New-York scene and the American scene in general, as he’s always felt close to the American approach of music. During his stay, he records the drum parts for the band’s first album.

After a short break in France, he moves to China for two years, hired as an international music school’s teaching director. This incredible opportunity broadened his artistic and conceptual horizons.
Also fond of philosophy and psychology, Alexis is interested in the music’s meaning and the message it can convey. Hostel of Ghosts is the perfect project, as it gathers a musical style he knows and enjoys, and a general concept that allows him to take advantage of his other passions to help the project grow.
